About 9:15 on Saturday morning, February 10th, we met at the I-75 Rest Area in Pasco County for a cruise to the Marjorie Kinnan Rawlings house not far from Hawthorne, FL. There were 14 of us.

 

Marjorie Rawlings was a well known author of books about life in rural Florida.  She was most famous for her book, The Yearling.  Click the link below to learn more about her.

Before touring the Marjorie Rawlings house, we went to lunch at The Yearling Restaurant, very close to the Rawlings house and, of course named after the author’s famous book.  We had to wait 20 minutes to be seated, and another hour for our orders to be served.  A Porsche club with about 50 people had arrived before us and the restaurant isn’t really geared for that many customers at one time.  But the food finally came and it was really good.  The waitresses were great and the atmosphere was fun.  It all worked out well.   After lunch we headed back to the Marjorie Rawlings home for the 3pm tour.
