On Saturday, November 11th, The Sun 'n Fun Vettes Club participated in an incredible event. We were in the Veterans Day Parade at the James A. Haley VA hospital in Tampa. Nancy and Randy R organized and coordinated our club efforts for the Parade.
We all arrived by 7:45am for the event. There were 11 cars. The members in attendance were Nancy and Randy, Hector, Dave G., Carl, Mike E., Wally and Julie, John W, Bill W, Irene and John, Harold and Tom A (C3), a friend of many club members.
We waited around until 9:30am. Setting the cars up with the flags that John and Irene brought took some time. Nancy and Randy also had some red and blue boas for some of the cars. The group really got into this by displaying the colors.
We carried some dignitaries. We had Congresswoman Lee in Nancy's C8, State Attorney Lopez in Hector's C8, Assistant Director VBA Moorby in Irene's C6. We were the very first group behind the color guard that led the Parade.
The parade started around 9:45am and the route went around the VA hospital. Many spectators lined the streets waving and flying the flags we had given out. We then headed south on Bruce B Downs Blvd in front of the James Haley VA Hospital. The crowd was sparse in front of the VA due to the lack of shade. The sun was out and it was pretty hot, and although we only drove about 3/4 of a mile we were glad to finish the parade and park in the shady parking garage.
When the festivities were over, we all went to Miller's Ale House for lunch. Since most of us were veterans, Miller's Ale House gave all of us 50% discounts on our bills.
A good time on a great day for a good cause – honoring our military.
