4-6-2024 STUMPKNOCKERS ON THE SQUARE
On Saturday morning, about 10 a.m. we met in the Big Lots parking lot at the corner of SR 54 and US 41 in Land o’ Lakes for a cruise to Stumpknockers on the Square Restaurant in Inverness, FL. We could not have had a more perfect day for a Corvette cruise.
We took backroads to get to Inverness and cruised through some of the most beautiful country Florida has to offer. Rolling hills. Winding, S-turn roads. Canopy roads. Horse ranches. Cattle ranches. Just incredible country.
Stumpknockers on the Square at Inverness is one of those “gotta go there again” restaurants. Very rustic. Laid back. Old Florida. And, great food.
After eating, several of our members spent time walking around exploring “the square” in Inverness. Peter and Yaz visited the old courthouse and discovered some pretty cool history there. The courtroom scenes in the Elvis Presley movie, ‘Follow that dream' were filmed in that courthouse. Toward the end of this webpage are links to learn more about that.
We had a fabulous cruise and if you weren’t with us, you missed a lot.

Our leader had the waitress make up a fake ticket with everyone's meal on the ticket and present it to Carl D. Carl's expression made us all a little worried about what might happen with the meal he had just eaten, but Yaz "saved his bacon", so to speak.

After eating, several members of our group went on walking tours exploring "the square." John & Irene H discovered. . . um, . . . TURTLES!
But Yaz & Peter visited the old courthouse and discovered something very interesting. The court room scenes in the 1962 Elvis Presley movie, "Follow That Dream" were filmed in an upper floor court room in this Inverness Courthouse. During the 1961 filming, Elvis had also gone to the Valerie movie theater there on the square.
